What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is the abbreviation for the specific strain of the 2019 novel (new) coronavirus which is causing a spread of respiratory illness.

How it spreads

The virus spreads from person to person during close contact or when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It may also be possible to get by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it.

Symptoms

The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure:

Prevention is in your hands

There is currently no vaccine or treatment for COVID-19. Take these steps to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Should you use a facemask?

CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.

How to Wear a Cloth Face Covering

Cloth face coverings should:

  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Include multiple layers of fabric
  • Allow for breathing without restriction
  • Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

Telehealth Visits

In response to the evolving situation around COVD-19 and to help reduce the spread of the virus, Telehealth visits are covered under your medical plan.

Effective immediately, you and your covered dependents can access virtual visits and phone consultations with in-network primary care physicians, specialists, behavioral health providers and physical, speech, and occupational therapists who offer this service. You will pay the same copay or cost-share as you would for regular in-person visits. Check with your regular provider to see if a telehealth visit is an available option.

Providers Outside TN
We have been advised that many Blue Plans are allowing their network providers to file for telehealth visits. When that is the case, BCBST will process the claims and provide network benefits. Providers that participate should initiate the telehealth visit when appropriate.

For general questions, associates can always call the Member Service number on the back of the ID card – 800.565.9140.

Telemedicine

We suggest using Telemedicine as your first line of defense in order to limit potential exposure in physician offices. PhysicianNow offers access to doctors 24/7 and can be used to treat common conditions, evaluate the risk of infection, and triage next steps. They can even send a prescription straight to your pharmacy if you need it. You may reach PhysicianNow at 1-888-283-6691 or at bcbst.com/member.

Telemedicine visits are covered with $0 copay if you are enrolled in any medical plan.

Testing

Ingram will cover COVID-19 diagnostic testing with no out-of-pocket cost for you and your covered dependents enrolled in a medical plan. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Vision Service Plan (VSP)

For associates and dependents enrolled in the Vision Plan:

VSP members can still use their benefits during this unprecedented time. The need for clear vision doesn’t pause for pandemics. If you and your dependents experience blurry vision, eye pain, injuries, or other changes in your vision, please seek urgent eye care. Contact your VSP provider directly or call a VSP Representative at 800.877.7195.

Now through June 30, 2021, VSP members can access essential medical eye care. Click here to see what’s included.

In compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state, and local mandates, in many parts of the country, vision services are limited to essential and emergency needs. However, you can take advantage of eyeconic.com, VSP’s “always open” online store to reorder contact lenses and purchase new glasses. You just need a valid prescription that is no more than two years old for eyeglasses or one year for contact lenses.
Please visit Manage Your Plan on vsp.com to access statements, make payments and more.
